American's Suspicion and Opposition of Government
After the Vietnam War, many Americans began to oppose American involvement in unnecessary wars. They were afraid that another war could end without a benefit for the United States, similar to the end of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War not only had no benefit for the Americans, but it was also seen as a waste of money. People lost trust in the government for becoming involved in an unnecessary war.

Split Democratic Party
Opposition to the Vietnam War split the Democratic Party. Former democrats believed that the party's foreign policy was weak and many argued over America's proper role in the world. While many believed that America should still play the "protector of democracy", others believed that America should avoid international affairs.
